The Client
An e-commerce company from the technology sector developing its own digital products and sales platforms in a data-driven model. The organization builds its competitive advantage through analytics, process automation, and the development of its own data architecture.
As part of the decision to build a new data warehouse from scratch, the client needed an experienced Data Architect capable of designing and implementing an end-to-end solution.
The challenge
Existing reporting relied on fragmented data sources and custom SQL queries. There was no consistent data model or analytical layer that would enable scalable reporting and further development of AI initiatives.
The key requirements
- lack of a data warehouse designed using a proven methodology (e.g., Kimball),
- absence of an intermediate layer and clearly defined analytical layers,
- limited performance of reporting queries,
- time pressure — the project needed to start immediately after hiring the right person.
The internal HR department had no experience recruiting senior data architects with a strong hands-on approach.
The solution
Within a recruitment model, we conducted a full hiring process to find a Data Architect responsible for building the data warehouse from the ground up.
The process resulted in hiring an experienced, hands-on Data Architect with a background in building commercial data warehouses based on Microsoft SQL Server.
The conclusions
- Immediate project start with no delays once the candidate was selected.
- Design of the target Kimball Data Model as the foundation of the new data warehouse.
- Development of a Proof of Concept including the Data Warehouse layer, ETL processes, and the analytical engine.
- Creation of a scalable data architecture supporting reporting and further analytics development.
The client acquired a critical architectural capability in-house, minimizing project risk and accelerating the foundation for further data-driven transformation.
