The Client
A mid-sized e-commerce company operating in an omnichannel model (own platform and marketplaces), handling several hundred thousand orders per month in the CEE region. The infrastructure was fully based on AWS, with significant traffic spikes during promotional periods such as Black Friday and seasonal campaigns.
The challenge
As sales grew, issues related to the scalability and stability of the cloud environment began to emerge. The company experienced periodic drops in application performance and increasing infrastructure costs.
Key challenges included:
- insufficient AWS expertise within the internal team,
- suboptimal auto-scaling configuration and container architecture,
- lack of a structured FinOps approach,
- business pressure to maintain high availability (SLA) during peak sales periods.
The organization needed to strengthen its team quickly without going through a lengthy recruitment process.
The solution
Within a staff augmentation model, we provided two AWS specialists:
- Senior AWS Cloud Engineer
- AWS DevOps Engineer
Both experts were integrated directly into the client’s technology team. Their responsibilities included:
- reviewing and optimizing the architecture (EC2, RDS, S3, EKS, Lambda),
- reconfiguring auto-scaling and load balancing mechanisms,
- implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform,
- improving CI/CD and deployment processes,
- optimizing cloud costs (rightsizing, reservations, and usage monitoring).
The project was executed in parallel in both operational and optimization modes, without interrupting ongoing business operations.
The conclusions
- Increased environment stability and elimination of critical downtime during peak periods.
- 35% reduction in the time required to deploy new features.
- Reduction of AWS infrastructure costs within six months.
- Strengthened internal team capabilities through knowledge transfer.
The client obtained a scalable and cost-optimized cloud environment without the need for a lengthy recruitment process or building a separate cloud team.
